I am so delighted to introduce Live Lightly, and hope you will join me on this journey to Illuminate our Lives through Luxurious Simplicity, designing our Dreams into Action.
This is my mission, my philosophy, my dream for this space, but what do these (gorgeous!) words actually mean?
How is Living Lightly connected to Design?
Living Lightly means choosing to fill my life with what I love, and releasing everything else. It is about creating space and time, so that I can connect with myself and live my passions. Living Lightly is not at all about denial, scarcity, or minimalism. It is about living with abundance, beauty, love, pleasure and connection.
The simplicity comes with choosing to focus my precious love and attention on less, clearing away the so-so’s and distractions, so that each part of my life feels luxuriously full. This is Luxurious Simplicity.
Designing Dreams into Action.
I believe Design is the process of bringing ideas to life. To Design is to Illuminate.
Design is an iterative process, enacting gentle refinements within a fluid reality. Through self-inquiry, Life informs my Dreams. I manifest change in my Life. This informs my Dreams. It is beautiful. Cyclic.
To Live Lightly is to illuminate my Life. To Live my Dream, to Design the integrated spheres of your life into alignment, through Luxurious Simplicity.
The spheres that light me up? DREAM. MIND. BODY. BEAUTY. LOVE. HOME. WORK. PLAY.
These spheres feel right for me, open, inspiring, expansive, light, integrated. They are all me. One Life. One Universe. Within a spectrum of Scale (micro to Universal) and Tangibility (abstract to physical).
I think in pictures. I colour-code my world.
As a designer, I communicate with myself and figure the-big-stuff out visually, and through years of journaling and creating, organising and dreaming, I have started to discover and Live what I Love.
Why am I so excited by these graphics?
I hope that Live Lightly will inspire conversations, connections, new ways of communicating and opening up about these ideas that sometimes feel too personal, weird, vulnerable, or indulgent to talk about. Because figuring out who you are, figuring out your purpose and living a radiantly beautiful life is not only something to be celebrated, but I think why we are all here. I want to open the door and bring us all out of hiding so that we can Live Lightly together.
Communication. Vulnerability. Grace. Beauty.
I know what its like to feel like a kook.
Unable to express all of big shifts in thought, moments of clarity, confusion, frustration and delight. I am 26 years old, living out of a backpack, designing my dream life, and have never felt more alive, passionate and creative. I know to some this appears maddeningly irresponsible: self-employed, no mortgage, no fixed address, no sign of ‘becoming a grown up’. In know what it is to feel that your friends, family, boyfriend and pets are bewildered by your seemingly sudden inclination to give away your possessions, or travel the world, or quit a nice stable job, or become a vegan or take up trapeze, or the millions of other experiments that seem to accompany being a Luminary, on your way to Living Lightly.
I feel that if we were able to express ourselves and communicate our unique journeys clearly, our actions might not appear so erratic, we might be able to be more gentle on ourselves, we might connect with and support each other, and our journey might be lighter and more Luxurious. These graphics have given me the vocabulary to communicate, and with that the courage to be vulnerable, and to begin Living my Dreams.
